Nothing a politician says can surprise me anymore. I just watched a video of a governor from one of Venezuela's states stating that he will offer a $1,000 reward for any truthful and accurate tip that leads to the identification and apprehension of individuals mining cryptocurrencies. He doesn't specifically mention Bitcoin, but it is obvious that is what this is about; they have been conducting a witch hunt for years, stealing mining equipment from bitcoiners. The excuse: "miners are part of the problem causing power outages."
🤡
I'm surprised that they think miners pose such a threat to them. Do you think it's just that they want to steal the bitcoin and miners or is it that they are worried that it is a source of very difficult to trace bitcoin?
Venezuela has bigger problems than snitching on nonexistent miners
That’s absolutely true; it’s incredible to see how these leaders want to treat the public as if they were stupid. Although they always have hidden agendas, they want to control Bitcoin mining and prevent ordinary citizens from having access to that power.
The people of Venezuela are stupid
Obviously. That's the purpose of the post, to show how inconsistent and cynical the politicians here are.
I think they are the most cynical and brazen thieves that exist.
another vacuous statement by OP
$1000 reward? How does he have $1000 or any amount of dollars?
Is this part of your utopian pacifist revolution?
My utopia of pacifist revolution?
You have a serious reading comprehension problem. Or perhaps I haven't explained myself well because I'm writing in a second language, and that's why you don't understand me.
you said pacifist or pacific revolution
and you oppose USA intervention in Venezuela
Monroe doctrine, learn it and accept it
Are you forgetting that the government has the ability to print fake money (VES) with which it can obtain other fake money (USD)?
This is the historical pattern: energy becomes scarce, governments criminalize whoever is competing for it. Venezuelan miners are providing real price discovery on stranded power that the state wants to extract rent from instead. Expect more of this as hashrate grows in resource-rich but institutionally weak regions.
It’s astonishing how these politicians operate. This is what they call a ‘smokescreen’. It doesn’t tackle the real problem; they aren’t looking for a genuine solution, but instead use this smokescreen to hide behind and attack ordinary citizens… ‘Mining is the problem,’ says the mayor,
He doesn’t even by mistake say that the problem lies with them, that they haven’t invested in infrastructure or equipment to improve the electricity system.
This is the definition of a surveillance state.
Turning citizens into informants is a classic move to mask infrastructure failure.
like Covid mandates
It's a joke that tells itself!!
Damn thieving governor!!
I hope he goes to hell!
but not Maduro who was innocent according to OP
What are you talking about? I never said he was innocent; I have always stood firm against everyone in the government.
with words not action
words are cheap and easy
What are you trying to say here?
Please express yourself clearly so that I can understand you
OP opposed the capture of maduro
All clear-thinking Venezuelans have supported Maduro’s arrest.
Clear thinking Venezuelan? Oxymoron
Tell us your story – did your wife or boyfriend cheat on you with a Venezuelan? What’s your problem?
You can’t lump everyone together.
There are bad and undesirable Venezuelans, yes! That’s absolutely true. But the same thing happens in France, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Asia. Literally, wherever you go, you’ll find good people and unpleasant people.
But even if that’s your case (you’ve come across the absolute worst of the lot), that doesn’t give you the right to speak with the intention of denigrating an entire group of people just because they come from a particular place.
I don’t know how good or superior you think you are, but in Venezuela there are people superior to you, and just as there will be in other countries: Japan, Korea, Angola, Morocco, Brazil, Germany, Scotland, etc.
You should stop consuming whatever it is you’re consuming, and start consuming humility and respect.
Such decisions often show that governments look for easy scapegoats instead of solving real infrastructure problems.
Crypto mining then becomes a convenient target to explain power outages.
It also raises questions about economic freedom and how new technologies are accepted.
