The Astros threw a combined no hitter last night.
The starting pitcher threw 6 innings and then two relievers pitched the final 3 innings.
While only 22 out of a total 327 No Hitters in MLB history have been combined No Hitters. 2 out of the last 4 and 4 out of the last 10 have been combined No Hitters. I expect the trend to continue and eventually combined No-Nos will flip Solo ones.
Statistically combined no hitters are just as legitimate (no hits is no hits) but should they have an asterisk in the record books?

I think of a no-hitter as a pitcher accomplishment, more so than a team accomplishment.
That makes a combined no-hitter feel more like a neat coincidence than a feat of elite pitching.
It’s still a feat worth noting, but it isn’t the same as a single pitcher throwing it
I think this is how most fans feel.
What do you think is more impressive a complete game shutout by one pitcher or a combined no hitter?
Maybe I will do that poll tomorrow.
that’s more difficult. but probably the complete game shutout by one pitcher. it’s all about one guy going the distance I think
TBH, I didn't even know people tracked "combined no hitters" till you brought it up. I always thought of it as a pitcher-level accomplishment, not team-level.
god damn gen z lowering the bar for everything
- boomers, probably
The Astros have been dealing in combined no-nos for years now. I think it’s 5 since 2019.
A World Series one I don’t think should get an Astro a but I could see others. Esp given the era change right now
Didn't Blanco have a solo no hitter against the Jays a few years ago?
Modern pitching strategy probably means combined no hitters are only gonna become more common from here.
Agreed
