Ok, I never played the OG, and for decades, I have been hearing about how amazing it is. My best friend is quite vocal about it and insisted I play the remaster.
I'm now on the final boss (after slogging through seemingly endless bosses to get to him), and I can't help but feel it's been a slog, a graphically pleasing one, but a slog nonetheless. Quite honestly, I preferred Octopath Traveller.
I have found the characters to be meh. Tifa is far too hot, and the story, so far, has done nothing for me. Combat has been mostly enjoyable. But I'm just pushing through to get it done, I haven't been experiencing any wonder, other than weebing out over Tifa's insane jugs.
Now I wonder if some of the issue is I don't have the necessary nostalgia connection to really get hit in the feels. Like I'm sure if they remade Chrono Trigger like this, I would fucking love it, since I love old RPGs and I still really like the SNES Final Fantasy games, despite the fact you could say they also have kind of shallow stories.
But those old classics have the nostalgia of when I first discovered piracy via emulation and magical youth. Shit, I was even replaying them on Game Boy Advance while waiting around the doctors when my wife was first pregnant, so multi-layer and generational nostalgia.
So yeah, that's my 2 sats.
Any remake fans here?
Unrelated, but nostalgia-gaming related, here is a LEGO Mario set that my mum got. She loves puzzles and lego and decided to get it.
You didn’t cry when that chick died?
i was surprised they killed off a somewhat main character, but I wasn't really invested. my most epic death was Arthur in rd2, that blasted me right in the feels
I played the demo for the remake to see if I would enjoy it and ... just ... didn't. So I get it. I treat video games the same way I do books. Even if it's popular and well received, if I'm not enjoying it or don't feel it's worthwhile, I try not to feel guilty about just putting it down and moving onto the next thing. Same as everyone else, I have a large backlog of Steam games and books that I would eventually like to get to that I'll find worthwhile instead.
i've done this a few times, but i found i keep going thinking the story was really going to pop off any minute and it just didnt lol
I haven't played the remake but I did play the original.
FF7 was my first Final Fantasy and it blew me away.
But the idea of the remake didn't appeal to me. Episodic content? Wut? Also, part of the charm was the blocky characters. I don't really resonate with the new more realistic style.
i think it did a lot of groundbreaking stuff for its time , i didnt have a ps1 or even get into rpgs until later in my teens , so it floated by
I never got into Final Fantasy but I'm glad people are posting about gaming here. Gaming territory isn't super busy and I like to read posts from here.
I like your LEGO Mario! Today I scored a Mario PEZ dispenser for $1.98!
nice!
