Is it possible you didn't submit the quote search after entering it? (It would explain why the results didn't change between screenshots.)

Figured it out. It’s the smart quotes default on the iOS keyboard. Only straight quotes work for the exact text search. To turn it off in iOS settings turns off all smart punctuation. Any way to make it so someone typing in “simplex” on iOS will get the same results as "simplex"?

Confirmed. Thanks! I'm sure many other iOS users with the default keyboard settings will appreciate the improved exact text searches as well.
