I haven't done a post about sports nicknames in quite a while.
For some reason former NBA player and first overall pick, Pervis Ellison popped into my head today. He had a bit of a unique nickname, Never Nervous Pervis.
I am a bit torn on this nickname because on one hand it is unique but on the other hand it seems like whoever gave it to him was trying way too hard. At least he didn't get named Nervous Pervis.
What are some other examples of sports nicknames that feel a bit too "try hard"?
I assume you mean "real" nicknames as opposed to Chris Berman things like "Eric Sleeping With Bieniemy."

What was the one KD wanted to be called instead of Slim Reaper?
Apparently he wanted to be called "The Servant". That's pretty lame.
Definitely trying too hard.
