Fantastic post! As someone who works for Congress I can tell you 99% of these Member’s only know whatever their 25 year old staffer tells them. That’s one of the critical underlying issues up here are Member’s relying on incompetent staff.
I work on a Committee and dealing with personal office staff on legislation is one of if not the biggest reason I hemorrhage brain cells at work. Committee staff who spend there time on specific things and try to get a whole picture of a single or handful of issues is one thing but these personal office staffers come in and go “yeah so this person I met with says this will cause XYZ blah blah blah and it’s either A just not true or B so grossly misrepresented that it’s borderline reckless to these lobbyists to make the comments scaring the staffers into thinking it will went the world.
