Mali's Junta is in a whole lot of trouble. Just a couple of years after kicking out Western security forces for the Wagner Group, the whole situation is rapidly crumbling. Wagner fell apart and turned into the Africa Corps, which has just been plain terrible at providing security and, in many situations, has been completely and utterly defeated.

Not only did the Defense Minister die, but it is also reported that the Military Intelligence Chief Modibo Koné was also killed. The AfricaCorps has appeared to have reached some agreements with the rebels and jihadists to pull out of some cities after days of battle. This Junta, though, appears to be cooked, and unless there is another one, this could be the first of the Sahel States to fall.

The militants released a statement aimed at Russia, saying

to "reconsider its support for the military junta" in Mali, saying its "actions have contributed to the suffering of the civilian population".
