“First and foremost, we are not making a film about Communism and Stalinism because if Orwell was writing the story today, he would be talking about other relevant topics like globalisation and corporate greed...”
In other words, Andy Serkis, like most communists, wants to rewrite history in favor of his ideology.

I thought about this a couple of hours but I think that my position ends up at: if you change the message, change the title.

Otherwise, it's just a deceptive association scam. It's not like communism has been eradicated. The other day there was a Soviet demonstration passing by my place. Like. CCCP flags and all that shit.

As long as that ideology exists, Animal Farm proper does not have to change its messaging.

Never trust the mormons

Saw the trailer for it when we took the kids to see something, wife and I were both like wtf this looks terrible and what is Angel Studios doing involved with Seth Rogan?

Might have to re-brand to Fallen Studios

reply

Fallen Studios sounds pretty rad as a company name, not gonna lie

reply

If it's not already being used by a smut site i'd be astonished

reply

haha that's not what i had in mind... i was thinking about some game studio that publishes edgy games

reply

I haven’t watched it yet but have heard it’s nothing like the book. Rather than being a criticism of communism it’s a criticism on private credit, from what I’ve heard. Also that the villain is Elon Musk’s mom. I might still go watch it with my kid simply because I had them read the book an this could be an opportunity to teach them in real life how they try to rewrite history right in-front of our eyes and all the other lessons from the book.

It might unintentionally have a lot of artistic merit

she does look like a villain from central casting, not gonna lie

The scene, right after the chicken uprising, where the cat gets it as an innocent bystander. And I'm a dog person. About the 47:20 time mark.

Damn, I was just skipping around in this version again, when they take Boxer away in the truck..sad

As Orwell put it:

The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.
reply

The kicker is that this was produced by Angel Studios, which was supposedly Christian and conservative

reply

Yeah... was gonna say. Hollywood?

Angel Studios is Mormon btw.

But also... the "Christian right" is full of progressives who actually think they are conservative or worse, moderates. One of the worst things about the Protestant right wing Evangelical movement is how clueless they are about political ideals. I've found most are at best surface level reactionaries that hold many left wing historical views that mean they can't really view the current state of affairs with clarity.

I attended a "Christian" private school and the history taught in it as well as what I have seen in current schools differs little from government schools. Yeah, they talk about God and the Christian roots of the US but omit all the same inconvenient things government schools do. They teach big government and the post war conscience view of the world. IE a neo-liberal world view. Just with Jesus added in.

Its sad.

reply

I know.

turrible

reply

Oh wow, this is pretty sad. I read Animal Farm before I read 1984 and it left an impression.

The thing is so relevant to today, but it seems like the people making it have convinced themselves that they know better.

Bunch of pigs, really.

reply

it's downright Orwellian

reply

Some people are just more equal (equitable?) than others.

reply

Yeah, there’s no way Orwell would care about the surveillance state or censorship.

reply

Ahh this is disappointing.

reply

Being impressed by Andy Serkis is not very good. He has many faults.
