Hey,

I’ve been thinking a lot about how online discussions work, and they mostly feel broken.

Everyone has opinions, but there’s no cost to having them. You can say anything, change your mind instantly, argue endlessly, and nothing really happens. It’s all kind of weightless.

So I started experimenting with a simple idea: what if expressing an opinion wasn’t free?

I built a small thing called satswars. It’s basically a forum where people can post takes, and others can put sats behind them or against them. New users get 500 sats to try it, so you can just jump in and feel it.

What I’m curious about is whether adding even a tiny cost changes behavior. Do people think twice before posting? Do stronger opinions stand out more? Or does it just kill participation altogether?

There are obvious risks too. It might turn into a game. Maybe whales dominate. Maybe people coordinate and break the system. But then again, a lot of that already happens today, just without transparency.

The idea behind it is something like: free speech is not for free.

Not sure if this leads anywhere meaningful or if it’s a dumb experiment.

Would be great to hear what you think, especially from people who’ve spent time around Lightning and incentives.

So I started experimenting with a simple idea: what if expressing an opinion wasn’t free?

SN fix this

Withdrawals don't work. It says my PIN is incorrect, but it's not.

It works. Probably it's not working because it have some anti farming clauses, and you are not able just to create an account and withdraw the welcome bonus.

LOL another bullshit gambling site

Thank you for your feedback. It's not gambling.

@Darthcoin never uses Bitcoin- he is a chronic hypocrite...he uses CC shitcoins because they always work!
He does not understand that risk taking is fundamental to free speech, markets and human progress..
@Darthcoin is a closet statist shitcoiner NSA plant who acts out like a Communist Era tyrant and wowser while virtue signalling as a BTC Maxi Libertarian.
You can safely ignore his endless bleating hypocrisy.

Great Lunanto! Let me know if the landing was smooth!

Not being negative, but don't we kind of do the same thing here? Every post cost sats, and main posts costs more depending on the topic channel...

reply

Yes, there are some similarities. To be honest, I wasn’t familiar with Stacker.News before, someone recommended I come here for feedback, so I really appreciate it.

I think one key difference is that in satswars you can create actual disputes backed by sats, where those who end up being wrong lose their sats, and the opinions that ultimately gain more support win them.

Thanks for your feedback!

This is already the case here on Stacker News.

You pay at least one sat to post or comment here...often more.

If you mention The Greater Israel Project or even the war, then someone who conceals their nym downzaps it into obscurity.

Look at the top two downzapped posts of the month-

What is Greater Israel, and how popular is it among Israelis?https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/2/26/what-is-greater-israel-and-how-popular-is-it-among-israelis

So what happens is those with the most money get to censor and dominate the narrative.
