I'm attending a college graduation at the Nassau Coliseum this afternoon. I was here for a few games during the Islander's first season in 1972. I also saw the Nets play a few times. I recently found out that this site was used for the filming of the famous scene in The Godfather when Sonny is killed. They constructed an artificial toll booth while the Coliseum was being built. I can't remember all the good times I have had here. Four Stanley Cup champion teams, classic rock concerts in high school, being too drunk to remember where I parked my car and having to wait until the parking lot was almost completely empty.

It's right on the Nassau County/ NYC border, and part of the Belmont Park complex. I have been there for hockey games and concerts. It's pretty nice, but I still have a warm place in my heart for the old barn.

Yeah. I'm contrary. I like indoor rain. They have fixed it up. It looks good. I still can't believe a pro NHL team played there while all the other fancy arenas were opening. If you're interested in government dysfunction, Nassau is a fun place to look into. The Colosseum concession lease basically hamstrung the Islanders franchise for most of its history.
