Why does everyone talk about the guy who paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas and how idiot he was, but nobody talks about the guy who received 10,000 Bitcoin for two pizzas?
According to what’s said online, Jeremy Sturdivant didn’t keep those 10,000 BTC. So, in a way, he might be an even bigger idiot than the first guy. 😂
Alright, I know some people here will say that back then nobody could have predicted how much Bitcoin would rise in value, but that still doesn’t change the fact that they were two idiots. 😂
You call Laszlo Hanyecz, the inventor of GPU mining, who mined thousands of coins in a day, an idiot because he spent some of them on pizza?
Oops, nooo. My English is so bad.
I was being ironic about the people who call Laszlo Hanyecz an “idiot,” and I wanted to say: why don’t you call Jeremy Sturdivant an idiot too? In the last sentence, I meant something like: “…but that still doesn’t change the fact that they should both be called ‘idiots.’
Either they should both be called "idiots", or neither of them should - this was my point, but it wasn't clear... 🤦🏼♂️
No worries, thanks for clarifying
I mined with GPU... not because was cheap in fiat terms, but because was easy.
Laszlo never left bitcoin.
I worked at a crypto platform years ago that routinely did business with him.
He is doing just fine.
If Bitcoin continues its upward trajectory, we'll all look like fools or legends in 30 years, having donated thousands of sats for a post here, which might soon be worth thousands of dollars or more.
Young people might say, why did we kill ourselves working back then if all we had to do was post every day on Stacker News or nostr, keep everything on a cold wallet, and retire rich in 30 years.
If your strategy takes hold and nobody donates and just HODLs, how will you retire on the donations for your posts? I'm spotting a fallacy here.
You probably only read half of my post and didn't see that I wrote: "Young people might say" implying that they will not understand.
A site like Stacker News works on donations between users, so yes, everyone is encouraged to contribute, and their system is well-designed because if you want to participate actively, you inevitably have to donate sats. I like it !
The sats must flow!!!
Of course I read the whole post (otherwise I wouldn’t have commented!).
What you tried to imply didn’t come through clearly.
It's a psyop in the media to frame Laszlo as a fool who spent his coins that are a fortune now to undermine bitcoin's use as a medium of exchange.
The story has turned into a fable. In a thousand years it will be taught as part of the School of Satoshi and teach practical wisdom. The pizza maker is the hero of the story. He saved us all.
How ?
He spent only 10k bitcoin when it was 0.4 cents per and people go crazy, today people spents millions of sats with almost the same rate and no one noticed it. Will have the same lines: Anon spent 10k sats on may 2026?
That's just fiat mindset. Stupid mindset.
People should think of spending bitcoin as if it is something that each one REALLY need it in that moment,m doesn't matter the price in fiat.
If your life depends on spending your sats in a certain moment of your life, so be it, don't regret it.
The whole point of spending your sats is:
If you earn 10.1K BTC in a certain period and you spend 10k on something that matter for you or save your life, you are still on plus earning 0.1BTC.
Relating to fiat price is really dumb.
Well hindsight is always 20/20
Back then, 10,000 BTC was only worth about $41. To him, he just traded two pizzas for a cool digital hobby token.
