I wasn’t keen on travelling so far out to Hay Diaries (yes I understand the irony because Singapore is so small). but the son was insistent, so I relented and here we are.
While queueing to buy hay, I asked the cashier if I could take a peek at the activity booklet. She shrewdly asked if I was a teacher because “only teachers ask to check out the booklet.” Since my occupation was exposed, I went ahead to purchase a copy to honour her attention to detail.
If you pare the experience, there wasn’t much to do except feeding the goats. But since I was with two young children, that was enough. I think we spent a good hour being hay providers.
Chances like this are prefect for me to understand my children’s personalities. The younger daughter took to feeding like a duck to water. She didn’t hesitate much, except when some goats came too close and startled her. The son, on the other hand, had a lot of hesitation as he was afraid of getting bitten. Since he stood too far away from the feeding area, I pushed him forward, only to be met with his disapproval.
“Don’t push me!” he warned. I backed off.
Ngl it was a bit concerning to see him struggle like that since boys and toughness and all that jazz, but I wisely stayed away. Fortunately, he overcame his fear eventually and was soon feeding the goats with hay.
Another highlight of the trip was tucking into gelato made of goat milk. The kids chose chocolate gelato whereas I opted for a more seasonal watermelon gelato. Of course, we bought a packet of goat milk for good measure.
Nothing beats seeing kids interact with animals. Great parenting moment.
