pull down to refresh

Hi frens,

I like music, like most people, nothing groundbreaking, but I still wanted to share some of what’s been on repeat recently.

I rediscovered a band I used to love but kind of left on the back burner for a few years: Circa Survive.

I remember the first time I saw them on TV, playing The Difference Between Medicine and Poison Is in the Dose. I thought, “that’s sounds like my jam,” and from then on I was intrigued. On Letting Go pulled me in, but when I got to Juturna, I was completely hooked.

I remember sneaking up to the roof, just staring at the stars while listening to Stop the F**ing Car*, thinking about life in that way you only do when you’re younger and a bit more naive.

Then came Blue Sky Noise, and Strange Terrain to this day it’s still such a fun, playful, a bit angsty song. It’s about the future, but also about holding on with some kind of grace, asking big questions and getting almost no answers. As time passes, it somehow keeps gaining new meaning.

I Felt Free, Get Out and Imaginary Enemy are great on their own, but acoustic? That’s where they really shine. There’s so much release in them, like letting go of something heavy while still having fun.

Violent Waves wasn’t my favorite overall, but it definitely has some bangers like Sharp Practice.

Descensus gave me one of my all-time favorites: Phantom. It’s a bit sad, but also calming, I love singing along to it. And the transition into Sovereign Circle feels like everything closing in a perfect loop.

And I can’t not mention Child of the Desert. That live video looks like it must’ve been such a great show.

Another track I enjoy is House of Leaves. I think it’s inspired by the book of the same name, I heard the song before reading it, and it already felt eerie, but after reading the book, I can now say it fits perfectly.
Another good one but also sad: Battle, My Love.

I’ve also been listening to Anthony Green as a solo artist, his Better Half song makes me smile. Also the Blue Jeans cover is chef's kiss.

When I need a bit of a push, You’ll Be Fine usually does the trick.

It’s honestly sad that the band broke up, and even more so knowing it was tied to Anthony Green’s relapse.

But still, Circa Survive will always have a special place in my heart. Going back to their music now almost feels like hearing it for the first time again.

But not just Circa Survive, I’ve also been listening to some Deftones, as one should. I cannot stop playing Rocket Skates. I was lucky enough to see them live a few years ago and when they played it… yeah, I went a bit feral. Same with Poltergeist, I couldn’t stop clapping.

I’ve also been really into their newer stuff. Milk of the Madonna has been such an earworm it’s almost annoying but in a good way. When I need to reset, I switch to Ceremony and it just works.

And when I feel like dancing, I’ve been putting on Kesha. Her latest album from last year is still in rotation Boy Crazy especially is a banger.

Also, Rosalía, there’s a track from her newest album, Lux, Dios es un stalker. Super catchy chorus, makes me want to dance and sing along every time.

I think that’s pretty much it for now.

What have you been listening to lately?

Take care folks, see you later 🐊 .
