What would be the right way to do this for soccer? Our sports basically only have one contest that counts as a championship.

For kickball is impossible everyone wins something at least, didn't won in your career, you're bad, simple.

So it needs to be World Cup, i think is the only comparison plausible.

You're list is really good, I'll check F1 drivers to not win, cuzz it's the same thing one sport one competition.
