pull down to refresh

Lots of millionaires and billionaires (and trillionaires?!) from the SpaceX IPO (#1506664). Hfsp, Bitcoiners.

How silly of us thinking we were gonna get rich while waiting and/or building for an improved monetary system. Instead:

It was all just an Elon gameIt was all just an Elon game

Anyway, on a personal note: I'm clearly in the wrong profession. And sex, it'd seem.

A small group of high-end companions are charging time-poor technorati thousands an hour by offering a blend of sex, attention and genuine intellectual rapport.

Meida Marek (a nym) working in finance a few years ago saw the writing on the AI wall... what happens when AI can do this better than I can? and did some mental math. Uhh, supporting sex role pays better than assistant financing.

So Marek took inventory. She was intelligent and naturally supportive. She was good at talking to people. She likes futurist rabbit holes: AI, biohacking, cryptocurrency, the sort of topics that can turn dinner into a three-hour debate. So she decided to turn that toolkit into a new career—and became an escort.
For Marek, it’s sex work with a particular angle: high-end companionship for Silicon Valley’s most online, most technical clients—often the kind who work in AI or around it. Lately, she’s been getting a lot of clients from Nvidia.

"men who want the hot, smart girl to also take their ideas seriously.""men who want the hot, smart girl to also take their ideas seriously."

These escorts’ nerd literacy is baked into their marketing materials. All have active X accounts where they post provocative selfies, mixed with commentary on topics like AI and longevity.
If you want to understand the economics, just look at the menu. On Tryst, a directory for escorts, $1,000 an hour is already high. Marek charges $3,500. She has no problem getting it, and her rate has almost doubled since the beginning of the year. Currently, she says she’s booked out for the next few months, and is getting so many inquiries that she’s considered raising rates again.

Oh, wow

Marek, who takes a similar view, says she wants to avoid becoming part of the ‘permanent underclass’ that many Silicon Valley technorati believe is coming soon.

I feel yah. Again, bitcoin was supposed that hard, limited, scarce asset for a machine-fueled future. UBI for the techies and zoomers. Alas, we just missed out on every other relevant rally (gold, stocks, AI). Turns out the combo of hotness, brains and sex was what was scarce and in demand.

H. F. S. P. Now, even the hookers are out-earning/out-wealthing us.

The Original DaaSThe Original DaaS

I write about dilution-as-a-service around here, which is what e.g., Saylor and his ilk are busy doing. https://www.stacker.news/items/1292636.

Marek and her companions found another DaaS: dating as a service.

Kind of ingenious. There's an AI gold rush going on, with tons of wealth around; the earners are incredibly busy, doing long hours and don't have time for family life; also, the dating/marriage market is pretty broken.
ERGO: just rent out your epic, good-looking, high-end dating services on a need-to, case-by-case basis. oh lord.

"Many want something that feels like dating—attention, warmth, conversation, sex when it fits—without the friction, rejection or uncertainty of modern romance.""Many want something that feels like dating—attention, warmth, conversation, sex when it fits—without the friction, rejection or uncertainty of modern romance."

Doesn't even seem that bad most of the time:

Marek says her average client is young, typically in his thirties or forties. What they’re buying, she says, isn’t just sex. It’s time with someone who can match their intensity and not flinch at their favorite subjects.
She recalled a long night at the Ritz-Carlton, lying in bed with a client, just talking.

One client testimony: "“I am a lot more selfish with my time now,” he says. “It's easier to pay money for time – there are clearer boundaries.”"One client testimony:
"“I am a lot more selfish with my time now,” he says. “It's easier to pay money for time – there are clearer boundaries.”"

I feel like the autists and socially awkward introverts sort of won? And their girls are profiting accordingly:

...or just the degenerates. (I take back everything I ever said about Polymarket/Predyx/Kalshi traders...)

Her clients, she says, fly her internationally for multi-day trips and buy gifts on top of her $23,000-per-day fee. Shopping sprees are common: one client took her to Europe, where they did acid and spent “thousands of euros” on fur hats. She likes antique jewelry and Edwardian costuming; she recently got fixated on miniature clocks embedded in old pieces worth thousands and antique, handblown glassware.

I admit, I've thought about this infinite-generation meets finite attention span a lot in recent months (#1463052, #1496889, #1467035), and I've sort of come up with (a more everyday twist on) the same conclusion:

If AI is making digital companionship cheap, flattering, and always available, why are prices for the real thing skyrocketing? Because scarcity is the whole point. Simulated intimacy is a drag. Unfiltered, unprogrammed human authenticity that surprises you? The kind you can’t just refresh? That’s an area where AI can’t outperform humans. Aella observes that girls who let their character quirks shine through tend to be able to charge more, even if they show disagreeability.
AI is making simulated presence cheap, instant and tireless, while minting an elite class willing to pay a premium for the part it can’t supply: a real person’s attention.

Silly Den went to Oxford (#1506462), and then plunged down the orange rabbit hole. Should have just spread his buttcheecks.

Ironically, I broke the paywall via smry.ai today. First time (or should I say, popped the AI paywall cherry?) https://smry.ai/https:/www.forbes.com/sites/annatong/2026/06/07/the-nerdy-escorts-cashing-in-on-silicon-valleys-ai-boom

If these ladies aren't engaged in industrial espionage, I'll eat my hat.

It's not too late Den. I am not sure you can charge those rates but you could be a gigolo if you want to. I hear there might be some ladies who work at Space X that have come into some money and are looking to celebrate.

Im interested. I do have a flashy Oxford degree and some, uh, thoughts

"Marek charges $3,500"

I'm in the wrong profession... I guess its not too late to switch
