my prediction is we will see a seasonal pattern soon. Higher hashrate in when the northern hemisphere is in winter and lower hashrate is summer.

reply

I second this. I have thought this for a while as pleb miners look to utilize their surplus heat and it just makes more sense during colder months.

reply
utilize their surplus heat

Even if heat is unutilized, cooling is just cheaper

reply

Depends.

I spend a lot more on cooling than heating in the northern hemisphere. My electricity bill is essentially double during Jun/Jul/Aug than it is in say Dec/Jan/Feb.

reply

ASICs only need cooling, they never need heating. Never. And cooling is cheaper in winter than in summer.

reply

Some of us use our miners for ez heating in the winter but in the summer when it's 30 celsius outside AC is required in addition.

Great point

lower hashrate in summer?

It's still spring, summer solstice has not arrived yet

Data farms switching to sell AI compute IMHO.

Would be interesting to see if selling compute to Open Agents is more profitable than mining bitcoin for a GPU.

That just means my hash is worth more.

Maybe it won’t take a decade to get my pool payout after all.

Where do I dig?

reply

Fantastic! Love the pay rise

reply

Isn't this because all the cheap electricity... Is being taken up/consumed by AI compute?
