I had been looking for a new to-do app for a while, with privacy being one of reasons for the change.

Some metrics I was looking for:

  • Works seamlessly across multiple devices
  • Preferably syncs using folders I already have access to remotely, instead of having to host something new
  • Easy to add new items to the list as they come to mind
  • Sufficient tools to circle back later to sort items, keep them organized, and have them come back to my attention at the appropriate time

While the development of Mindwtr is heavily AI assisted as covered in the FAQ, the features nailed what I was looking for, and I have been really enjoying using it the past few weeks since making the switch.

I wanted to pass it along for anyone else interested in a to-do app with a lot of great features that isn't syncing your personal to-do list via some random server somewhere.

Maybe this is what I was looking for. I found https://habo.space/, that’s not a To-Do, is it more like a task gamification.

A good to-do foss app is hard to find.

Thanks for sharing. Habo looks interesting, but yea, not what I was looking for.

Mindwtr is an implementation of GTD (Getting Things Done). So quick inbox capture, then you process tasks into projects/next actions later. Based around the idea that your brain is good at having ideas, but not as good at keeping/organizing lots of ideas simultaneously. Get them out of your mind so you can focus on the task at hand. If you're confident they're stored and organized, and that they'll return when they need to, you can truly forget about them for the time being and free your mind to focus on the tasks that deserve your immediate attention.
