Social media reception has been pretty brutal for these, but I respect Spiegel putting out the best thing they could given where the tech is. They won't do numbers, but with everyone else reducing their bets in AR and too ashamed to release anything, it should give them a lead in terms of experience and sdk development - which could payoff in the long run.
IMO their biggest mistake is not doing a Vision Pro-like battery pack. It's all tradeoffs but if they were 50% more normal looking with a battery pack, they'd be more palatable to me. I'm sure they debated that a lot internally though. Maybe building this kind of clunker is a better place to iterate from?
Regardless, it feels like we're at least five years away from glasses chipping away at other form factors. It's like we're in the cassette->CD period for AR.
I actually, kind of, like them. They're better than the original Google Glass and probably better than the mosquito Meta display raybans.
I had the Snapchat drone before they bought them back. I liked it a lot! I might get a pair of these.
