AI is one for the few areas of technological development where the west can credibly hope to retain a lead on China. This is why it is such a big thing at the moment. There is of course no guarantee that AI will preserve western hegemony- its just a hope and a gamble. If it proves to be more hype than reality, or if the wests quite different approach toward it fails relative to Chinas, it could hasten rather than halt the rise of Chinese economic and strategic power dominance.
