Daniel Fraga is one of two most sought-after men in Brazil, considered one of the greatest men in our country.
With just a camera and a non-YouTube channel, it managed to make many BIG people uncomfortable and exposed, in fact, what happens under two steps of the system.
Even though he is considered one of the most dangerous men in Brazil, Daniel Fraga is also considered a hero by many, due to his courage in expressing his ideas and opinions.
There was a time when talking about Bitcoin in Brazil was synonymous with one thing: Daniel Fraga.
I don't say this as an exaggeration. I say this because it was literally the first.
The first Brazilian YouTuber to record a video recommending the cryptocurrency.
The first to explain to his audience what it was, why it mattered, why the traditional financial system's days were numbered.
And also, over time, he became something more difficult to describe: a symbol, a mystery, a legend that the internet itself built around him until it was no longer possible to separate the man from the story.
Dâniel Alves Fraga was born on June 18, 1976, in the Bela Vista neighborhood of São Paulo.
He was a Linux systems administrator.
The most interesting thing is that this whole story began there in 2010, on the streets of São Paulo, with a super simple 43-second video.

Daniel decided to film an abandoned lot and post it on YouTube. In the video, he appears very indignant, not at all that in the description he had placed or straightened the premises and a state law that showed the failure of the government with what should be fulfilled, second to the constitution.
Of course he didn't stop there. I sell that other people also have the same problem, they started recording more and more videos.
It didn't come, it didn't appear, it barely showed the falhas of the state in its city, with abandoned lands, left behind the streets and bumpy roads.
At that time, all the videos followed the same objective: to show the failures of the state in its city and to criticize the role of politicians.
This was April 2010, when Daniel decided, for the first time, to attack a politician publicly, and the chosen one was the mayor of São Paulo at the time, Gilberto Kassab.

The title of the video was: “Kassab does not monitor television and more wood is discarded as lixo.”
It didn't take long for Daniel to face up and appear in front of the camera for the first time.

And guess what the critics are? Sim, he criticized Kassab again for the terrible administration in São Paulo.
After he showed his face, he knew very well that here was a path without any problems and, even knowing this, he continued, for months, exposing the problems of the State.
More than that, in fact, Daniel Fraga stood out among so many on the internet due to his ideology, propagating and teaching anarcho-capitalism to the public.
As time went by, their videos, which previously only explained the state's faults, have now become an open revolt against the system.
He was the first Brazilian to declare himself an anarcho-capitalist on YouTube, in 2012, attracting thousands of people to that political philosophy that until then was practically invisible in the country.

His videos mixed Austrian economics, criticism of the government and a direct, unfiltered way of speaking, which made many people uncomfortable.
That was exactly what he liked.

In December 2012, when Bitcoin was worth approximately $13, he published what is considered the first YouTube video in Brazil recommending the cryptocurrency, titled "Bitcoin is better than the dollar."
Thirteen dollars. Today that seems like a joke. At the time, it was a bet that almost no one in the country was willing to take.

In the same year, 2012, a congresswoman named Cidinha Campos, from the PDT party, made several offensive remarks against Ricardo Gama, a blogger well-known for his criticism and denunciations of political figures, very similar to Fraga's criticisms.
At that time, Ricardo, who had just suffered a near-fatal attack, also ended up facing a censorship process of his videos on YouTube, after responding to the criticisms and exposing a lot of the congresswoman's actions. And, of course, seeing a comrade in arms being bombarded by the State, Daniel Fraga went there and decided to support Ricardo, publishing two videos about the case, with many criticisms and insults against the PDT congresswoman.
Congresswoman Cidinha Campos, right away, didn't like it, and immediately counterattacked Daniel. First, she threatened him by exposing his mother's private data on Twitter. Second, she sued Fraga for moral damages.
If you think Daniel stopped there after this feud with Cidinha, you are totally mistaken.

Around the same time, he harshly criticized Alexandre Blanco, the PSDB candidate for mayor of São José dos Campos. However, this time, the candidate managed to censor some memes about him on Facebook through a court decision.
Fraga then made a video criticizing not only the candidate but also the judge who favored Blanco with the removal of the memes.
This story didn't go unpunished. The judge filed a lawsuit against Fraga for slander and defamation, demanding the removal of that video.
Fraga reacted by asking his subscribers to download and share the video on their channels to ensure he wouldn't be silenced.
The judge, trying to intimidate Fraga, imposed a fine of 40,000 reais per day for non-compliance with the order to remove the video.
But by this point, it was too late for the State.
Fraga made a video claiming that the judge wouldn't get anything from him because he had already invested all his money in Bitcoin.
In this scenario, efforts to remove Fraga's videos from the internet were in vain, and the judge ended up archiving the case.
This made him something more than a controversial YouTuber.
For many people within the Brazilian crypto ecosystem, Fraga became a living demonstration of what Bitcoin was for and beyond speculation.
In 2013, I created the first tutorials on Bitcoin in Brazil, explaining blockchain, decentralization, anonymity and how to buy cryptocurrency, when you first arrived in the country you knew what it was.
While others were looking at the price and wondering if it would go up or down, it explained why the system that was being replaced was broken since the foundations.
At some point during that time, he wrote, responding to a critic who told him that Bitcoin was a passing fad:
"In the future you will bitterly regret writing that. We'll see who laughs last."
Bitcoin was worth around $100 at that time.
Now, remember Cidinha Campos? Well, she threatened to fine him R$ 50,000 if he didn't remove a video in which he criticized her, at the end of 2014.
This time, two Civil Police officers even went to his house to deliver a summons.

After several lawsuits, he received another one, but from a different judge.
What he didn't expect was that, this time, the fine was R$ 1 million, including the intention to arrest Daniel.
The sentence classified Fraga as a threat to national security, something he considered absurd and proof of the State's attempt to control freedom of expression on the internet.
Of all the lawsuits, this was the most insane, because it was because of this that the government decided to break bank secrecy and raid his account to seize all his money.
What they didn't expect was that they would have a big surprise: as soon as they raided his bank account, they saw that he only had R$ 5.26, an amount that Fraga said he had left as charity, and they also found no assets in his name.
The story could have ended there, as a curious anecdote about a digital activist who predicted his financial future before almost everyone else.
Fraga also made a few more videos.
But in 2017, Daniel Fraga simply disappeared.
His last public appearance was on March 5, 2017, with a video about a supposed UFO that he even claimed was filmed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ed8H2_I6OI
After that, total silence.
For 2018, the federal justice system blocked the passport, the electoral title and the driver's license.
But it wasn't there, the least where no one could find it.
Since then, its history has been filled with layers that I have never been able to verify at all.
That he was in Switzerland. Who lived in the interior of São Paulo.
That there was a millionaire return.
That I lost everything when I bet for Bitcoin Cash during the 2017 blockade war.
That the story was more beautiful on the internet than in reality, and that at the bottom was the State that won, because Fraga lost his civil rights, his passport, his career as a communicator.
No one knows for sure which of those versions is true. They're probably all partly true.
What did remain was his legacy.
Whether that worked out well or badly is still unclear.
But it happened.
And the fact that no one else had done it before him is also undeniable.

LEGEND
And you are a deceitful coward, liar and hypocrite.
This is an excellent story! I had not heard of Fraga before this, but you did a great job making me see him as a hero!
He sounds a little like Brazil's version of Mircea Popescu. Great post!
I didn't know him until a couple of years ago...when I moved here to Brazil...without a doubt he's a legend (hopefully he'll live) among Brazilian Bitcoiners.

This part stands out as the entire point of Bitcoin, Daniel had worked out long before others, the power of Bitcoin.
The state could summon all it's political, financial and legislative weight but it was like firing bullets at Neo at the end of the Matrix.
Amazing story 👌👌
You described it perfectly...jjjjj
I can't imagine what it must have been like for those stupid police officers, thinking they could freeze Fraga's money and only finding 5 reais (one dollar).
It still a legend.
without a doubt
Great story! I had never heard of him. Thanks for the write up.
love this guy
Wonderful
In the eye of every goverment, all crypto pioneers are villains. LOL
Fraga sounds like a true hero.
Fighting the politicians and standing up for freedom.
So many just make hollow man virtue signalling bullshit but never actually take on the state.
Like @DarthCoin the biggest fraud and conman on SNs- claiming hes a BTC Maxi but not even using sats here on SNs.
@DarthCoin is much more likely an NSA agent infiltrating SNs and gathering inside info than a true freedom fighter.
But Fraga sounds likie the real deal.
I suspect he is enjoying life somewhere quietly probably with a new identity...and a stack of sats...maybe El Salvador...
Those of us who invested in BTC for the inherent integrity it represents tended to do better than the hollow man big talk no walk virtue signalling hypocrite wannabes like @DarthCoin.
