It's too early to make such a pronouncement.

Though I'm with you in sentiment - I myself would rather avoid it - I'm looking at it through a different lens thanks to the work of someone I'm very close to.
I think it's too early for such a pronouncement because I think the open-source, privately-hosted, single family machinery it can become is quietly being unlocked. I know some guys with the idea in mind to use agents to liberate themselves from the computer. From the cloud, from subscriptions, from Big Brother. And they have the energy of the early internet in their arsenal.

For most people, yeah it would be good to heed your advice. For bitcoiners, weirdos seeking sovereignty and freedom, I think it is a huge mistake to let the rent-seekers, the multi-billionaires decide what AI is.

it will continue to be sold and marketed for more and more meaningless applications even than we see today

I think this is exactly the point I'm refuting. Don't let AI be sold to you. Instead, harness it yourself. Self-custody style.
