DEI or should I say DIE has struck again. When will people start to understand that non-meritorious appointments will sooner or later backfire badly on those applying these non-sensical standards. Another point of reality that people miss is that men do some things better than women and women do some things better then men, on average. Why should we run things in any way other than the most efficient way?
pull down to refresh
I grew up in boats & had my own ones up to 52 foot for 2 decades, if there is one thing I know for sure then that is a skipper is 100% responsible for every single thing, every single second.
The sea is completely unforgiving, actually its a very inspiring environment for that very reason!
And then its also fun to have half-planned engine fires out there, or juggling a couple of large boats all alone in a dark winter night ;-)
That’s interesting. I have a small 21’ trailerable that I have, until recently, taken to any round lake that looks like fun. I really wanted to get a 32’ Westsail and hit the ocean, again, but it can’t happen any more.
Get it, then recruit a young crew! ;-)
There should be lots of people who want to get out in time...
I have a a couple of loose sons that might be interested. I want to get back to the taste of ahi and mahi-mahi fresh-caught.
You've been out there a lot?
I might get a tiny sailboat in the Med if things go real bad and I have to stay inside Schengen or close, lots of islands and deserted, coastal villages to hide in...
Or even an old, wooden fishing vessel, 9 out of 10 or more that would pass by, I'd get tagged as a local by default haha
I spent a year as a commercial fisherman on a long-line fishing boat off of Kona. It was tough at times and getting seaworthy was great fun for the others on the crew. After that was said and done, I really enjoyed the ocean.
Then you've got more experience offshore than me!
I've done coastal for the most part, apart for a couple of solo crossings... But I'm good at dealing with any shit that the ocean & weather throws at me, that I feel confident about...
Who knows exactly what will happen in the future, I'd be happy to take to the sea again, but would need some deck hands who get it!
One thing I enjoyed doing was handline fishing off of the stern. I caught what would have been a world’s record marlin in the sport fishing world, but had to attach a floater to the line because it had sounded so deep that we had run out of line. The thing was about 35’ long from the tip of the bill to the end of the tail. It was huge. We enjoyed big thick marlin stakes and marlin hamburgers for a long time. (Could not sell it due mercury accumulation.)
She is having a bad day
I would say she had a really, stupendously, horrendously, incredibly bad day, considering what and how it happened.
Won’t be winning any awards for that one.
