Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.

Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!

We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!

I´m reading lots of comments for and against about Saylor´s thoughts on selling Bitcoin to pay STRC dividends and I still cannot come to an own conclusion, nor imagine the impacts of any decision, and to act in consequence.

Todays most downzapped 'Greater Israel Project' post.

#1483584

What Netanyahu and the Israeli right mean when they invoke ‘Greater Israel’

'The concept is about much more than acquiring territory, it is also about Netanyahu’s desire for Israel to become a regional superpower.

In the past two-and-a-half years, Israel has flattened and reconquered Gaza, killing tens of thousands of people and laying waste its civilian infrastructure, squeezing its population, according to one estimate from last year, into just 12% of an already tiny strip of land. In the West Bank, Israel continues a campaign of destruction and displacement towards Palestinian people and property that is unparalleled since the six-day war in 1967, expanding its matrix of control and settlement.

After the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in 2024, Israel seized territory in Syria (beyond the illegally annexed Golan Heights) and is in the process of reconstituting a zone of occupation in southern Lebanon. Government ministers from the Religious Zionism and Jewish Power factions, and Likud parliamentarians, openly agitate for Israeli sovereignty and settlement in that country. The finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has called for Israel to “expand to Damascus”, and Netanyahu himself claimed to feel “very much connected” to this territorial vision of Greater Israel...

In the days preceding the Iran war, two influential former Israeli security figures writing for the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security observed that, from the point of view of key regional Sunni states, overthrowing the Iranian regime or weakening it significantly would establish Israel’s status as the “dominant regional power”.'

Some of my favorite things to do with LLMs are have them make

  1. code diagrams/visuals
  2. concrete examples walking through code

They're super helpful for context loading in self-specific way.

The first and only Bitcoin conference I visited was in Cape Town earlier this year.
I was pretty skeptical going in, but surprised at how much focus was on independence, freedom from gov, lifting people out of poverty into a modest amount of self sovereignty, and all that good stuff.

Fast forward to this weekend. I looked at a few of the talks at the Las Vegas conference. What a fiat-addled, govern-me-harder-daddy kind of shitshow is this?
Have the US conferences always been so bad? Or is this redditfication a more recent phenomenon?

Has nothing to do with the US. The ones in Prague and Amsterdam from this org are pretty similar. It's just the formula of the org behind these. To my memory, Mr. Bailey described it on SNL as hyperbitcoinization at any cost.

There are, just like everywhere else, also small, more grassroots conferences in the US. These just don't get as much press.

Ah, that makes sense. Good to know what to avoid. Thank you.

Omg, thank you, this confuses me all the time.

We Europeans use it the other way around: 1.234,56 instead of 1,234.56

reply

They taught me that in school but I got into coding at some point and now I am offended when I see a comma as a decimal separator. haha

hmmm I must've forgot to use Intl.NumberFormat.

When you are a PSLE teacher, every day brings about new revelations.

So, in the course of teaching my students this year, I have become more attuned to word clines. For example, ‘dismay’ means ‘upset’ whereas ‘distraught’ means ‘very upset’. Similarly, ‘thrilled’ means ‘very happy’ whereas ‘ecstatic’ means ‘profoundly happy’.

Sharpening my sensitivity is all well and fine, but how should I impart such knowledge to weak writers who are unable to recall the spelling of these words under exam conditions? Today, I saw ‘immense’ in the Stellar Reader. An idea struck me.

“Immensely sad works as well,” I declared sagely.

Think about it. A wave of immense joy washed over me. Immense sadness surged through my body. I was immensely angry, steam pouring out of my ears. I heaved an immense sigh of relief.

One single word can make a significant impact.

Someone actually used ‘immensely sad’ in her Oral response in the same lesson!

I was so tickled pink by my brainwave that I taught immense to my son this evening.

Thanks. It's mostly because of appreciating the discussions on top of having an active territory I think - I haven't forced it.

Plants make sugar and then feed it to soil microbes. Those microbes release CO₂ back to the plant, driving the cycle.

@DarthCoin says he 'lives on the bitcoin standard' but in reality here on Stacker news he exclusively uses CC shitcoins because 'CCs always work'.

The self-proclaimed BTC Maxi techno wizard cannot use sats because its too hard.

Oh dear.

Maybe he's a mole planted by the NSA to infiltrate and report on Bitcoin protocol technical aspects and community.
