So in Japan, they actually have spots on the street for smoking? You can’t just light up anywhere?

Japan took the opposite approach of most countries - smoking allowed indoors, prohibited outdoors. Restaurants had smoking and non-smoking sections (which someone joked is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool). I don't see many restaurants with smoking anymore, but most bars still allow it.

Outside, they've built a lot of walled smoking areas. Sometimes they're completely enclosed rooms. Someone should make a photo collection of smokers' jails. They look hilarious, all crammed in there.

I'm tempted to say good riddance, I don't smoke, but then I'm sure one of you would start quoting the "First they came for the..." poem at me 😄

Also New York has this rule, I remember a policeman asking me to kill a cigarette because I wasn't in the right spot.

edit: I think you can walk and smoke though, you just can't be stationary
