I am STILL in disbelief. I am STILL in disbelief.

I can't believe this is actually happening to me!!  Being a sports fan all of my life I am used to my teams losing especially the dreadful Knicks.

Here is a some of the pain I carry with me as a life long sports fan:

Buffalo BillsBuffalo Bills

  • The first Super Bowl against the Giants I was a wee lad so I don't remember much. I remember the the party my mom threw thanks to the blue and red M&Ms and if the BIlls won we wouldn’t have school the next day. Welp Scott Norwood missed the game winning kick and the Bills lost to the New York Giants.
  • The Bills will make three more super bowls after that. (Redskins, Cowboys, Cowboys) And lose all three!! The last two weren't even close. Max pain!
  • Then the playoff drought happens after the stupid Music City Miracle. I remember that game like it was yesterday. The Bills took the lead late led thanks to a late drive by Rob Johnson getting them into field goal range. Rob having sat all year (They benched Doug Flutie for Rob) did the job. Only to have Frank Wycheck and Kevin Dyson throw a forward pass and win the Wild Card Playoff game. Bills won't make the playoffs for almost 20 years after that stupid play. It got so bad one season all we had to do is beat Pittsburgh's back ups in the final game of the season to make the playoffs and the Bills got hammered that day.
  • The Josh Allen era has been fun but it is not without its blunders. The 13 seconds game brings the most pain when the It was clear the Bills were going to beat the Chiefs only for the Bills defense to allow 30 or something yards in two plays which allowed KC to kick a field goal. Just utter pain!!

Buffalo Sabres Buffalo Sabres

  • Brett Hull scores with his foot in the crease to beat the Sabres in the Stanley Cup Final 4-2. That cup run is when I became a hockey fan and stuck with them ever since. Sucked to lose that way.
  • The 05- 06 Sabres were a wagon only to be destroyed by injuries in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Hurricanes. We had guys coming up from the AHL playing defense sdue to all the Defensemen we lost. Defensemen Henrik Tallinder and Jay McKee, were the two biggest players we lost. Carolina won game 7 and went on to win the Cup with corny Cam Ward and Eric Staal.
  • We made the playoffs a few more seasons after that but the core got old and it was time to hit the reset button. Then a 15 year drought of not making the playoffs happened. The longest reset button ever in the sport! After tanking and losing all of their top tier talent due to poor management the hockey team was just bad. I gave up watching them because it was just so boring and they kept losing!

New York Mets New York Mets

The Mets have been bad for the most part. I don't have any memories that I can remember exact pain besides the fact they don't win as much as they should when compared to the Yankees.

The New York Knicks The New York Knicks

And we finally get to the Knicks. Its been rough being a Knicks fan over these last few decades. In the late 1990s early 2000s the Knicks were actually good then the sucking.

Events that stick out the most to me

  • Getting Starbury and we still sucked
  • The whole Eddy Curry fiasco that lead to absolutely nothing
  • Remember old and shot Steve Francis?? and we were supposed to have the best backcourt in basketball HAHAHAHA what joke that was. Include Derrick Rose and Tracy McGrady as other former superstars only to bring their geriactic skills to the Knicks near the end of their careers.
  • Phil Jackson in his infinite wisdom was going to save us. Drafts Porzingus which he took a lot of heat for (Porzingus actually ended up being a good pick) but it didn't work with the Knicks.
  • Can't forget Gallinari the great Italian that didn't work out. Good player but maybe over drafted
  • Ahh yes the whole deal with Carmelo Anthnoy. I absolutely HATED the fact he forced a trade to New York and completely gutted the team. We lost Mozgov, Wilson Chandler, and many others just to stroke Carmelo's Ego.
  • Linsanity was fun until Carmelo ruined it and basically ran Jeremy Lin out of New York.
  • I thought we overpaid for Amar'e. He was good but I knew we weren't going to win anything of significance with Amar’e. Him and Carmelo made no sense.
  • Getting hyped about Kevin Knox only for him to bust
  • KD, Kyrie, and James Harden spit in Knicks Fans faces and join the stupid Brooklyn Nets.  ( Why I was annoyed to see Jay-Z at the Knick finals games. Like NAHHH Bro go back to yo side!!!)
  • Losing the Zion sweepstakes only to get RJ Barrett

Some of these are blessings in disguise but they hurt in the moment.

Things started to turn for once the Knicks got Julius Randle and started to win some games and make the playoffs. Then the master genius himself Leon Rose made the greatest free agency signing ever with Jalen Brunson.

My co-worker came to work the next day and was like WHO?? My co-worker came to work the next day and was like WHO??

I had no clue who the player was and was disappointed we didn't get a marquee name like KD. Then we traded RJ and Quickly to Raptors for OG which I thought was a huge mistake. I liked Quickley and RJ was up and down but I had no clue who this OG guys was. I was dead wrong about OG.

Things really took a turn for the better when the Knicks dumped Randle for KAT. I was thinking this team can actually win. I was so excited!!

And now we are here.

NBA CHAMPS!! NBA CHAMPS!!

Thank you Brunson for not being greedy in an age where every single player is putting money over winning. Leaving $100M on the table couldn't have been easy but we got a championship out of it. Thank you for being humble!

Mike Brown thank you for using the regular season to build that team chemistry. Using bench players in February is much better formula for winning versus Tibbs doing it in the Eastern Conference Finals when the team is getting handled by the Pacers. I am so glad they moved on from “ ground my players in to dust Tibbs).

And most important Leon Rose. He is the President who will go down in Knicks History as one of the best to ever do it. He didn't tank. He didn't wait for some superstar. Made good trades signed good players and built a team that won it all!!

So glad this happen. And to all my Knicks fans we can die happy now!!

WE GOT ONE!!!!WE GOT ONE!!!!

GO NEW YORK GO NEW YORK GO!GO NEW YORK GO NEW YORK GO!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

This is such a great win. Almost every previous attempt to build around an undersized on-ball guard has failed.

In a way, this is the payoff of the AI 76ers and Nash Suns. You can win this way if you get the team building and coaching right.

Brunson soundly outplayed Wemby, after SGA had been soundly outplayed by Wemby. Going into next season, there’s no more questioning whether Brunson is top 5.

Are you saying this from a Knicks team standpoint or the NBA as a whole because Steph Curry fit all this stats.

BTW not a single line about Celtics being part of the build up, after all the team was brought together to beat the mighty C's

Luka have to comeback strong next season and I doubt if that would be enough to win, they can make the playoff though.

All I have to say is you're welcome for trading you OG.

Haha.

Enjoy it. Apparently for some of us these championship don't come around very often. I celebrated a bunch of them as a kid with the 49ers and Blue Jays and then nothing for 25 years and the Raptors winning in 2019.

OG is badass

Great run and amazing win by the Knicks.

I second GR's comment. You're welcome for us trading you OG. He was already special when he was playing for us. I always think of this moment when people mention OG.

Close to 10 years since the last back to back championship, the Knicks might just break the jinx next season around

The internet tends to forget but I wouldn't, Jalen Brunson was underrated from his draft day to when he was traded to the Knicks and he ended up being MVP.
